In recent years, the Kenya Community in Korea (KCK) has undergone a significant shift from an association primarily focused on getting together, education, and cultural activities into a productive diasporic community that takes members’ interest at heart.
The KCK regional chapters oversee a diverse array of initiatives, including part-time jobs and employment support, information on social care programmes, healthcare provisions, family assistance, and socio-cultural engagements. The welfare initiatives within each KCK chapter are designed and implemented by their respective leaders. Registered members and their known dependents gain access to various social welfare provisions and activities from fellow members. These provisions include, medical assistance for prolonged illnesses, references and recommendations in cases job loss or joblessness, borrowing and lending of monies -in good faith- for bank statements, and assistance in times of grief and death.
This distinctive approach is rooted in a self-help model that emphasises social cohesion and trust within the KCK community. By fostering a sense of solidarity and unity, it creates a framework where Kenyans in Korea actively contribute to the well-being of their fellow community members. In addition to facilitating the provision of social security measures, this self-help approach additionally strengthens the ties and mutual support among KCK members. The activities of KCK Social Welfare Committee highlights the importance of a community-centred approach in effectively meeting the welfare requirements of its members. By offering essential support and assistance, these initiatives contribute significantly to enhancing the overall well-being and security of diasporans.
It’s against this background that the KCK Executive is honored to announce KCK’s inaugural Social Welfare Committee members. The 3-member Committee shall consist of:
1. Kipleting E. Surei.
2. Cynthia Nicole.
3. Joshua Wera.
The Social Welfare Committee is mandated to draft and craft welfare policies that are to be adopted to strengthen ARTICLE 13 of the KCK Constitution.
It is our hope that the team will leave an indelible mark that will impact the welfare of Kenyans living in Korea.
Best of luck to the Social Welfare team!
Wyckliffe Francis
KCK, President.
